Platform tennis is a great fall, winter and spring social activity that is played both day and night by men and women of all age groups. The game is easy to learn and primarily played by four people of all levels of skill and fitness. The combination of outdoor exercise, concentration, and athleticism will provide you a lifetime of fun. Just talk with any one of the hundreds of addicted players in our area and find out what you’re missing. Odds are, you live next to one already.
Maryknoll Park features two lighted courts and an indoor warming facility. The courts are elevated aluminum decks, 30’ x 60’, surrounded by 12’ high screens. The court’s base has a heating system that melts ice off the deck surface. Players use high-density foam paddles and sponge rubber balls. The balls are played off the deck and screens creating many options for shot making and strategy. The sport and camaraderie are highly addictive!
This national sport is governed by the American Platform Tennis Association (APTA). Information on rules, history, leagues and equipment can be found on APTA’s Website at American Platform Tennis Association.
Platform tennis is the third phase of development at Maryknoll Park. Its development was funded by an Illinois Department of Natural Resources grant. |
