Race to the registration finish line for the 2017 Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run

Posted on: May 12, 2017

The Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run, a Glen Ellyn Park District Independence Day tradition that starts this year at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 4 on Lenox Road near Lake Ellyn, is fast approaching.

And so is the June 29 Early Bird Registration deadline. Registrants who make the deadline get a discounted fee, guaranteed race t-shirt, and the chance to avoid long lines on race day.

The race is not only a fun way to begin the holiday, but a great way to help less fortunate neighbors. Proceeds from registration fees help fund scholarships for park district programs. Last year, 189 families were assisted with $37,000 in scholarship funds raised through the Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run, donations and other events, such as the Afternoon Festivities on the afternoon of July 4.

The Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run is sponsored by 1776 Senior Care, Pro-Home Services and Topgolf Wood Dale with support from Saylor & Murphy Orthodontics.

Runners, take note: This year, a new registration process is being introduced. Registration will be accepted through a new race website at www.FreedomFourRun.com rather than at Park District offices.

The new registration process is aimed at streamlining the procedure and making it easier for runners to prepare for the race, get their packets and timing bibs and take their place at the starting line.

Early Bird registration, priced at $25 per person, will be accepted through 11:59pm June 29. Online registration will close down at that point, then re-open at 6am July 1. Early Bird registration fees remain in effect through June 29; after that, the regular registration fee of $30 per person will apply.

All Early Bird registrants will receive event t-shirts; those who register after Early Bird registration is closed also will receive a t-shirt, while supplies last.

Race day registration will be available from 6am to 7:30am July 4 at Lake Ellyn Park.

Packet pick-up will be from 10am to 4pm Saturday, July 1 at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center. Packet pick-up also will be available beginning at 6am on race day.

After the race, there will be an awards ceremony in the Lake Ellyn Park band shell. Top male and female finishers in each age category will receive recognition.

So get your running gear ready to honor Old Glory. The race is open to runners age 6 and up.
