Park District announces winter special event lineup including free Olympics-inspired curling classes

The Glen Ellyn Park District has tons of events for you and your family to enjoy this winter. Registration for programs in the Winter 2018 Activity Guide opens for residents on November 12 at 10 p.m. and for non-residents on December 4 at 8:30 a.m. Highlights of the winter line-up include:

Chocolate, Cheese & Wine Tasting
February 2 from 5pm-8pm
Reserve 22, 485 Winchell Way, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
An evening of chocolate, cheese and wine tastings awaits participants ages 21+. A portion of the proceeds will help support the Glen Ellyn Park District Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance for recreation programs to families experiencing economic setbacks. $30 in advance; $35 at the door. Includes a souvenir wine glass, tastings of over 35 wines, and samples from local restaurants. Register Starting Nov. 12 at 10pm.

Daddy Daughter Dances
February 9 from 7pm-9pm or February 10 from 6pm-8pm
Main Street Recreation Center, 501 Hill Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
A Valentine-themed dance for ages 3-10 featuring ice cream sundaes, a “glam station” where girls can get complimentary hair and nail treatment, and a photo booth. The fee is $37 for residents; $55 for non-residents. Registration is accepted until February 1 or until the event fills. Register Starting Nov. 12 at 10pm.

Free Introductory Curling Day
February 17 from 1pm-5pm
Newton Park, 707 Fairview Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Windy City Curling Club will lead participants through throwing a stone, sweeping the ice, and basic curling strategy. Best for ages 8+, no experience or skates required. Register Starting Nov. 12 at 10pm.

Flashlight Egg Hunt
March 29 from 8:30pm-9pm
Churchill Park, 271 S. St. Charles Road, Glen Ellyn
Children ages 7-10 will be challenged to locate eggs filled with treats and toys using a flashlight after dark. “Special Eggs” will be positioned around the park redeemable for larger prize baskets. Limited to 50 registered participants, the event is $6 for residents; $9 for non-residents. Register Starting Nov. 12 at 10pm.

Eggs-trodinary Egg Hunt
March 30 at 9:30am or 11am
Maryknoll Park, 845 Pershing Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Kids under the ages of 6 will hunt for prize-filled eggs and take a photo with the Easter Bunny. $6 for residents; $9 for non-residents. Register Starting Nov. 12 at 10pm.

Free Winter Photo Contest
January 1, 2018 – March 1, 2018
Submit photos of events or places in the Glen Ellyn Park District and compete against other like-minded shutterbugs. The entry deadline is March 1. Winning photographs will be featured in a park district Activity Guide and receive a prize. Divisions for both youth and adult. Learn more.

Plus, the Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018! Gather a team and start brainstorming your design – the Glen Ellyn Park District is already taking registrations for this historic event. The 25th Annual Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2018, and the District challenges designers to think BIG. Will your team build the tallest boat? The longest? Divisions are available for family, adult, and youth. Register.
