Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

Posted on: March 4, 2020

Each day brings new information regarding the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The purpose of this communication is to let our residents know that the Glen Ellyn Park District is monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) relative to the current situation. For the time being, we are focused on ensuring that our staff and patrons are aware and take preventative measures to protect themselves from getting sick or stop the potential spread of illness to others.

Regarding cleaning and maintenance of Park District facilities, current guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health states, “At this time, no special sanitizing processes beyond routine cleaning are necessary or recommended to slow the spread of respiratory illness.” We follow standard processes for routine cleaning and disinfecting and are taking efforts to be even more vigilant than ever during these challenging times.

Please help prevent the spread of germs by practicing good hygiene. If you or any members of your family become ill, please stay home and do not participate in Park District programs or visit our facilities until you are well. As always, particularly at the Park District fitness centers, the wiping down of exercise equipment after use is strongly encouraged and welcomed. Additionally, if you become aware of a “housekeeping” matter that requires attention, please apprise a staff member. The CDC recommends taking the following measures, which are similar to those used to prevent the spread of influenza and other respiratory illnesses:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when sick.
  • Cough or sneeze into an elbow or use a tissue and place immediately in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The Glen Ellyn Park District strongly encourages anyone who suspects they may have the coronavirus to contact a medical professional.

While it is natural to feel apprehensive when facing a challenge like this one, it is important to be well informed and remain calm. For accurate information and the latest updates, please visit the following links:
