Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Updates

As the situation remains fluid, we will continue to closely monitor the local, state, and national responses, follow the recommendations put forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and stay in communication with the Village of Glen Ellyn, School District 41, CCSD 89, and Glenbard High School District 87. November 19, 2020 Update: Transition to Tier 3

Governor Pritzker announced on Tuesday that all of Illinois will move to Tier 3 of resurgence mitigations beginning Friday, November 20. While the new guidelines further impact Glen Ellyn Park District programs and services, they are the safest and most responsible way for us to serve our community. Please see below for an update on specific areas of interest.


Registered Programs, Sports, and Events:

Staff will communicate directly with program participants via phone or email about modification, suspension, cancellation, or a virtual option for registered programs and events scheduled to take place from November 19 to December 6. The District will reevaluate on December 4 and provide an update on programs scheduled for December 7 and later.


Free November/December Events:

  • Toys for Tots Toy Drive with Character (11/21): The drive has been reconfigured as a drive-thru event at Ackerman SFC from 11am-1pm. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate for Toys for Tots! Wave to and take pictures of your favorite characters including Thor, Elsa, Captain Marvel, Snow White, and Spider-Man. Participants must remain inside vehicles at all times during this socially-distanced event.

  • Turkey Burn & Food Drive (11/26): Canceled
  • Community Food Drive: Food and toiletry donations for Glen Ellyn Food Pantry will be collected inside Ackerman SFC from November 23-26.
  • Blood Drives: Appointments are required for both the November 24 and December 23 drives. Walk-ups will not be accepted.
  • Free Guided Nature Walk (12/4): Call (630) 858-6037 x 6006 or email rfrigo@gepark.org to reserve a spot. Please provide your name, phone number, and email address.
  • Free Fitness Orientation (12/10): Email slim@gepark.org to reserve a spot.
  • Restoration Workday (12/12): Call (630) 858-6037 x 6006 or email rfrigo@gepark.org to reserve a spot. Please provide your name, phone number, and email address.

Registration Offices:

The office at Spring Avenue Recreation Center is open to the public 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and 9am-12pm Saturday. The office at Main Street Recreation Center is open 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. Registration is also available via mail, fax, online, and phone. For help, please call (630) 858-2462.


Parks and Playgrounds:

  • Parks, playgrounds, and trails are open. Visitors are encouraged to use outdoor spaces while taking measures to stay safe and healthy including washing hands often, wearing face coverings, social distancing, and only enjoying the parks with members of your immediate household. Groups can be no larger than 10.
  • Athletic fields are open. Patrons may use in groups of 10 or less with proper social distancing and face coverings. Competitive play is not permitted.
  • Basketball courts are open weather and/or compliance dependent and limited to groups of 10 or less. No competitive play. Face coverings are required.
  • Spring Avenue Dog Park is open to members. Face coverings are required while inside the park.
  • Outdoor hard-court tennis courts and pickleball courts will remain open until further notice. Face coverings are required.
  • Newton Skate Park is limited to 10 participants or less. If there is a wait, patrons must limit their usage to one hour from the time they arrive. Face coverings are required. The park will remain open weather and/or compliance dependent.
  • Restrooms, except for those found at Lake Ellyn Park, are closed for the season.

Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center:

Under Tier 3 guidelines, fitness centers may continue to operate at limited capacity and 1-on-1 personal training is permitted. Face coverings are required in all areas of the facility, including while working out. Reservations are required for open court, turf, and pickleball and will be limited to 10 participants per time slot. Modified group fitness classes will be offered in alignment with the Tier 3 guidelines and will require registration. The walking track is open with a maximum of 10 participants. The indoor rock wall, childcare, and locker rooms remain closed until further notice. 


Spring Avenue Fitness Center:

Reservations may be made up to 7 days in advance by calling (630) 858-2462. Face coverings are required at all times in the facility, including while working out. For current hours, please click here.


Platform Tennis Center:

The platform tennis courts are open for members only. Face coverings are required both on and off the court and groups are limited to 4 per court. The Paddle Hut is open for restroom use only. No food or alcohol allowed on the premises. Players must exit the facility as soon as their match is over (no loitering).


Refunds:

Refunds, where applicable, will be issued as a credit on your household account by November 25th and will be available to use as payment for future activities. Unfortunately, the District is currently unable to process refunds back to credit cards. If you would prefer your refund in the form of a check, you must submit a check request to Rebecca Karales at rkarales@gepark.org between November 30 and December 4.


Winter 2021 Playbook:

Release of the Winter 2021 Playbook, which includes January-March programs, has been postponed until December 16. Updates will be posted at: gepark.org/playbook
