Free Garden Talks

Do you like to garden? Are you looking for ideas and examples to try in your landscape? Join us for these 30-minute talks to learn about featured plants and their attributes. All talks will be led by park personnel or a member of the Village’s Environmental Commission.


Pollinator Garden

Offered May 19 & 22 | 10am-10:30am
Learn several types of plants that attract and support butterflies, moths, bees, beetles, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Please meet at Maryknoll Park, 845 Pershing Avenue, near the Splash Park.


Perennial Plants

Offered June 9 & 12 | 10am-10:30am
Many perennial plants have been installed around the Lake Ellyn Boathouse the past few years. Learn about the new plantings added in 2020 and perennials that have done well near the building. Meet at Lake Ellyn Park, in front of the Boathouse.


Rain Gardens

Offered June 16 & 19 | 10am-10:30am
Learn which plants have done well in the parking lot islands at Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center and in the newly constructed bioswales. Please meet at the far western edge of the main parking lot, near the outdoor exercise equipment. 800 St. Charles Road.


Vegetable Garden

Offered July 7 & 10 | 10am-10:30am
Join us on a walk through the aisles of the Garden Plots to get ideas on what veggies grow well in our area, how to support vining plants, and using companion plants such as flowers and herbs. Village Green Park, 130 S. Lambert Road. Meet across from the basketball court.


Color-Themed Plantings

Offered July 14 & 17 | 10am-10:30am
In 2020, four, large, raised planters were revamped at Village Green Park. Each planter features perennials of a similar color: whites, reds; yellows; and blues. If you want to add a specific color hue to your landscape, stop by to get ideas.
