Meet Our Teachers

Katie Baehl
Lead Teacher, 2+

Hi! My name is Katie Baehl and I have been teaching preschool since 2010. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary/special education from Providence College (Rhode Island) and my master’s degree in learning disabilities from Montclair State University (New Jersey). Originally from New Jersey, I taught in an elementary resource room for four years before stopping to raise a family. A move west, in 2004, brought us to Glen Ellyn, where my husband and I are raising our five very active children, who keep us busy every day. After teaching three’s and four’s classes for the Wheaton Park District for three years, I am very excited for the opportunity (and challenge) at the Glen Ellyn Park District with the 2+ Preschool Class.

Penny Robbins

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and Business. I worked in Human Resources for the Chicago Tribune prior to having my first daughter. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with my 3 children and pursue some  part-time childcare out of my home and work at a local Children’s Activity Center. I am excited to be in a classroom setting with children and look forward to working with the children in the 2+ class!

Dana McMurrary
Class Aide, Main Street Recreation Center 4s

I joined the Preschool Program as Mrs. Dayton’s aide in 2018. I grew up in Glen Ellyn and am excited to be back raising my kids in the town that I have always loved. I attended DePaul University and earned a BS in Elementary Education. After graduation, I worked at DePaul University as a College Adviser, but soon realized teaching was my passion. After moving to Atlanta with my husband, I taught Preschool at Our Lady of the Assumption School and 2nd Grade at Pace Academy. I took a break from teaching to stay home with my two daughters, that now attend Lincoln Elementary School in Glen Ellyn! I am so excited to be back in the classroom and am so thankful to work with Mrs. Dayton!

I grew up in Wheaton and now reside in Carol Stream with my wonderful husband (also a teacher). We have five children whom are all college graduates. In my spare time, I love to tend to my gardens, read a variety of books, bike ride and play tennis.

Wendy Stoner
Lead Teacher, Main Street Recreation Center 3s & 4+

My name is Wendy Stoner and I am very excited about joining the Glen Ellyn Park District preschool program. I have a bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. I have spent most of my teaching career in Early Childhood Education. Before having my own children, I worked for Bright Horizons Family Solutions at Motorola. Once my children were in grade school, I came back to teaching preschool, first at a Catholic school in Itasca and then at the Hoffman Estates Park District. In 2015 I became the Early Childhood Program Manager at the Hoffman Estates Park District. I enjoyed being program manager, but really missed being in a classroom and working one on one with children and families. I am passionate about providing preschoolers with an engaging and exciting first experience in school. At no other point in school is learning so much fun – or so important!

Julie Carlson
Lead Teacher – Main Street Recreation Center Kindergarten Enrichment

I enjoy working with the Kindergarten students in our Enrichment Program. This great program provides a good transition for half day kindergarteners to first grade. These young learners grow and change every day and it has been wonderful getting to know so many students and families. While attending Northern Illinois University, I received my bachelors in Elementary Education, with a music minor. Recently, I completed my English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement at National Louis University.

My husband and I reside in Glen Ellyn with our two boys. Past teaching experiences have included raising two active boys, teaching first grade, and teaching four and five-year-old kindergarten classes. I’m proud of our programs at the Glen Ellyn Park District because there are many dedicated, loving teachers who provide excellent preschool and early primary grade experiences for the children in our community and surrounding areas. I hope early education will be available to all students in the future.  Outside of the school day, my family’s activities, reading and singing with the Glen Ellyn Wheaton Chorale keep me very busy, all of which I enjoy very much!

Charlene Silinski
Class Aide – Main Street Recreation Center Kindergarten Enrichment

I joined the Kindergarten Enrichment program in January 2018, after moving to the area from Southern New Jersey. I received my bachelor’s degree from Rowan University where I studied Early Childhood Education and English. I have over 10 years experience in early childhood education, including eight years as a Pre-K teacher. I truly love being a small part of each child’s early years of education, since these first years lay the foundation for their continued love of learning. When I am not at school, I enjoy reading, musical theatre, exploring Chicago, and spending time with my husband and our dog, Walt.
