Snowy scenes, athletic competitive spirit depicted in 2017 Winter Photo Contest winning shots

Posted on: April 14, 2017

Proof that there was snow on the ground this winter and that some Glen Ellyn Park District patrons knew just how to revel in it is captured in a frame that has won the district’s Winter Photo Contest first place honors.

The shot, taken by 15-year-old photographer Jennifer Doran in Newton Park, shows a snowboarder deftly navigating the snowpack on a sunny, chilly day and is titled, “Snow.”

Taking second place is a black-and-white scene that features falling snow at Lake Ellyn Park. The mood-setting photo was photographed by Robert Fugger, 38, who named his image “Second Season Snowfall.”

Photographer Daniela D’Argento, 41, also found an inspiring subject at Newton Park, where she created an image of an ardent football fan supporting her team. She titled her photo “Sugar and Spice.”

The winning photos will be featured in the Glen Ellyn Park District’s 2017-2018 Activity Guides. Each winner will receive an award and a prize from PJ’s Camera & Photo Supply of Glen Ellyn, the sponsor of the Winter Photo Contest.

The Summer Photo Contest is currently underway. Contest entries must be taken at Glen Ellyn Park District parks, facilities, programs or events. Photos must be high resolution digital photos with no less than 300 dpi, in JPEG or PNG format. Each submission must be accompanied by the photographer’s name, age and email, a title for the photo and a location. The deadline for contest submissions is August 1. Winners will be announced by August 15. Email photos to Courtney O’Kray at [email protected].
