Clay Tennis Courts

Play on Clay!

Clay courts offer a unique playing experience that every tennis enthusiast should try at least once. The slower ball bounce on clay courts, compared to other common court surfaces, grants players more time to focus on strategic planning and refine their technical skills. The soft surface of clay is also gentler on the knees, ankles, and feet, reducing the risk of injuries.

Location & Hours

You can find the clay tennis courts at Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, near Essex and Grand. They’re open from dawn to dusk, between April 1 and November 1.

Clay Tennis Court Season Pass

To use the courts, you need an annual clay tennis court season pass. You can pay the fee online or at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center. Remember to collect your key in person from the Spring Avenue Recreation Center. Residents pay $55, while nonresidents pay $80. Season pass holders receive a roster of fellow players and assistance with minor court maintenance.

Coming Soon: Clay Tennis Court Improvements

January 24, 2023 Notice: The courts are scheduled for significant improvements within the next 10-18 months. The project will require the courts to be closed during construction. Once additional information is available, players will be notified. At that time, fees will be adjusted if needed. Thank you for your understanding.
