Clay Tennis Courts

Play on Clay!

Clay courts provide a unique playing experience every lover of the sport should try at least once. Ball bounce on clay courts is slower than it would be on other common court surfaces. This gives players more time to focus on strategies and work on their technical skills. The softer surface is also kinder on knees, ankle, and feet, lowering your risk of injury.

Location & Hours

You’ll find the clay tennis courts at Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, near the corner of Essex and Grand. The courts are open dawn to dusk from April 1 to November 1.

Clay Tennis Court Season Pass

Players need an annual clay tennis courts season pass to gain entry to the courts. The season pass fee may be paid online or at Spring Avenue Recreation Center; however, members must pick up their key in-person at Spring Avenue Recreation Center. The fee is $55 for residents ($80 for nonresidents). Pass holders get a roster of other players and volunteer for minor court maintenance.

Coming Soon: Clay Tennis Court Improvements

January 24, 2023 Notice: The courts are scheduled for significant improvements within the next 10-18 months. The project will require the courts to be closed during the construction. Once additional information is available, players will be notified. At that time fees will be adjusted if needed. Thank you for your understanding.
