Lake Ellyn Shoreline and Pathway Project Update

The Glen Ellyn Park District’s project to create a new shoreline path extending from the Lake Ellyn Boathouse to the fishing pier is underway. The 12-foot path will feature permeable pavers as well as sections of masonry seat wall and enhanced landscaping. The existing stacked limestone wall will be replaced with a sturdier wall type.

Due to unforeseen soil conditions, further excavation under the retaining wall is needed. Despite best efforts of pre-construction soil boring tests, this is always a potential hazard to find this kind of soil. Of upmost importance is to build a solid shoreline wall for safety and long-term durability. Read More »

Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta Update and Summer Break at the Lake

After much discussion and consideration, the Glen Ellyn Park District will not be staging the Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta in 2022. In the years leading up to the pandemic, participation, showmanship, and boat construction have significantly declined. Since the event is dependent on boat registration, it has been challenging to have enough boats to make the event effective, particularly for all the volunteers, partners, and vendors. The District is considering staging the Regatta every 3-5 years moving forward to see if that would attract more participants and make it more exciting and enticing to be a part of in the future.

However, to continue the tradition of a memorable Fourth of July weekend in Glen Ellyn, the Park District will be introducing a new event for ages 21 and up, Summer Break at the Lake. Taking place at Lake Ellyn Park on July 1, Summer Break at the Lake will feature music from Maggie Speaks, beverages from local vendors – The Beer Cellar, Two Hound Red and Common Good – and a variety of area food trucks. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Glen Ellyn Fourth of July committee. More information to come in the Summer Playbook!

Glen Ellyn Park District seeks bond referendum for park improvements, upgrades, and expansion

Funds will be used to upgrade park properties, improve Sunset Pool and Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center and add new park lands.

April 20, 2022 – The Glen Ellyn Park District today announced it is pursuing a $15.9 million bond referendum to raise revenue to repair, improve and expand facilities, upgrade four park properties spread throughout the district, and purchase additional land for parks. The referendum question will be on the June 28, 2022 election ballot.

The Park District Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to put the referendum to a public vote. “We conducted community-wide surveys in late 2021 and early 2022, and our residents were pretty aligned in identifying a series of projects they would like to see us undertake,” said Alex Durham, Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners president. “With a strong directive from our residents, our board voted unanimously to put the referendum on the June 2022 ballot.” Read More »
