Floating Island Restorers

Posted on: August 18, 2017

The floating island restorers, which will be placed near the inflow areas of Lake Ellyn, have been temporarily located near the shore to make initial watering easier. Once the plants grow larger, their roots will hang below the islands. The roots, along with microbes that adhere to the surface of the islands, help absorb extra nutrients, sediments and other pollutants that enter the lake as stormwater. The islands also will serve as habitat for aquatic insects, fish, and other animals.
