Glen Ellyn Park District Invites Community to Ackerman SFC Open House

Posted on: October 30, 2017

Physical exercise is an important part of a well-balanced health regimen. Along with eating right, working hard at a job or in school, and making time for friends and family, exercise can help strengthen both the body and the mind. With the prevalence of digital devices, many adults (and children) lead sedentary lives. It’s important for people of all ages to engage in physical activity several days a week; the Department of Health and Human Services recommends a minimum of 75 minutes of vigorous (or 150 minutes of moderate) aerobic activity, weekly, for healthy adults.

It can be challenging to find one facility that offers many of the classes and activities that appeal to seniors, adults, teenagers, and children. If you’re interested in finding a terrific fitness center, attending an Open House is a great way to know if a facility is the best option for you and your family.

On Saturday, November 4, the Glen Ellyn Park District welcomes the community to visit the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, located at 800 St. Charles Road in Glen Ellyn. This special FREE Open House, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, will offer an opportunity to get a feel for the facility, to talk with staff and personal trainers, and to sample some of the many classes that are included with a membership.

“We’re open to residents and non-residents of Glen Ellyn, and we’re excited to offer this opportunity for people to come and try out our facility,” said Chad Shingler, Assistant Facility Manager at Ackerman SFC. “We’ll be offering tours about every 15 minutes, and we’ll have a lot of staff on hand to answer any questions people have. We offer something for everyone, including youth, adult, and senior programming.” Free morning, evening, and Saturday child care is a great perk with membership.

Shingler realizes that people who are new to a fitness facility might feel overwhelmed, and may not be sure what to look for. “We have a very helpful and friendly staff,” he added. “It’s one of my favorite things about working here at Ackerman.”

Attendees can try out the Ackerman Alps rock climbing wall, run or walk on the indoor track, shoot hoops on the basketball courts, or play soccer, football, or volleyball on the indoor turf field.

“We’ll even have free group fitness sampler classes for people to try,” said Shingler. “Children can try the 30-minute Kids Bootcamp class with Patti, and the Kids Zumba class with Loly, both of which will be held in the gym. In the Group Fitness Studio, instructors will be offering 20-minute adult sampler classes for WERQ, Spin, BodyPump, Pilates, Yoga, and Hard Core.” Group Fitness classes are free with membership.

Registration for the Open House is not required; dress to work out and come prepared to have fun! For more information, contact Chad Shingler at (630) 317-0134, or click here.
