“Happy Fall” takes top honors in the 2017 Fall Photo Contest

Posted on: December 15, 2017

In this moment, it was like time stood still. The brisk air, red-orange fallen leaves, and grass that remained a most magnificent green late into the season presented itself to this year’s first-place winning photographer. Capturing not only one of the greatest symbols of fall in our area, our first-place winner, Emily Kroculick, positions a subject in front of the lens throwing the season into the air. Fall then calmly sways back down to the ground in this shot. Titled “Happy Fall,” we all know of the joy that freshly fallen leaves can bring.

This year’s fall contest features a tie for second place. Two furry friends named Oscar and Kane are shown literally at their peak, overlooking the turf field and surrounding Newton Park grounds at dusk. Off in the distance, we see several orange-and-golden-brushed trees that once again accentuate a very green landscape. From photographer Katie Inzinga, this first, second-place winner is titled, “Oscar and Kane Atop the Hill at Dusk.” Our second, second-place winner displays a rich arrangement of pinks and purples in the clouds at sunset that mirror onto one of Glen Ellyn’s greatest icons. Lake Ellyn soaks in these majestic colors while we see the shoreline freckled by park lighting, not to disregard the centerpiece of our Boathouse. This picture is titled “Lake Ellyn at Sunset.”

Our third place winner shows roots growing right on the water similarly to our floating island restorers, debuted this summer. Positioned on our fishing pier, a father and son overlook what’s making its way through the more shallow depths of the lake. Titled “Checking Out the Fish” from photographer Megan Pereiro, this still image brings peace to mind as a viewer can imagine the years to come.

Our winning shot from the youth category honors the skill of a rock climber at the Ackerman Alps. The climber shows strength, determination and focus on this rocks course carefully mounting both feet on tiny holds. This year’s youth winner for the fall season climbs on!
