Preschool Open Houses & Registration

Posted on: January 4, 2018

Choosing a preschool for your child involves researching your options and making a decision that works best for your family. The Glen Ellyn Park District offers a Preschool Education Program for children ages 2 ½ through 6, combining a variety of experiences and media to help students explore and develop their skills in the areas of vocabulary, reading and writing, math, and science.

A curriculum that balances academics with play activities helps children develop problem-solving skills, social awareness, and other cognitive abilities, with the ultimate goal of becoming Kindergarten-ready.

The preschool daily schedule includes teacher-guided activities, along with both large and small group activities centered around a weekly theme. “Our students participate in fine and large motor skill activities, including art projects and dramatic play,” said Jeannie Robinson, Assistant Superintendent of Recreation Services for the Glen Ellyn Park District. “They participate in music, cooking, and writing. They even have monthly visits from B#Sharp Music for Children and Renae Frigo, our Naturalist.”

In order to provide parents and their children with the information they need to select an outstanding preschool, the Glen Ellyn Park District is holding two Open Houses so that visitors can meet with teachers, tour the classrooms, and obtain registration information. “We want parents and children to be informed about our program,” added Robinson. “At our Open House events, they can have all their questions answered and get a good feel for the wonderful preschool experience the Glen Ellyn Park District provides. We encourage potential students to attend the events with their parents.”

The first Open House, for students ages 3-4, and for those interested in Kindergarten Enrichment (ages 5-6), will be Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Main Street Recreation Center from 6-7 pm. The second Open House will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center from 6-7 pm. The second Open House is for students ages 2-4. Please RSVP to Jeannie Robinson at [email protected].

The 2018-19 preschool year begins the week of September 4, 2018, and finishes the week of May 6, 2019. Classes follow the District 41 school calendar, but additional holidays will be mentioned in the Glen Ellyn Park District Preschool calendar.

Registration for Park District’s Preschool Education Program begins Monday, February 5, 2018. Forms for new students must be submitted by Saturday, February 10th for entry in the open registration random lottery drawing for available spots. Priority registration for students currently enrolled takes place in January. For more information, please contact Jeannie Robinson at [email protected].
