Posted on: August 2, 2018

Main Street Recreation Center and Marie Ulhorn/President’s Park are getting brand-new playground equipment. Both projects are anticipated to be completed by mid-October 2018.

Marie Ulhorn/President’s Park Playground

The removal of the Marie Ulhorn/President’s Park playground is complete. Next, Park District staff will remove the old footers, wood chips, timber border, and prepare the area for the new playground equipment. The contractor is scheduled to begin installing the new playground equipment the week of August 20. The playground will be closed until mid-October (weather depending) for the installation of the new equipment.

This District once again collaborated with Kids Around the World, a non-profit organization, to remove the old equipment, refurbish it and re-install it in a community where children are affected by adverse conditions, such as war, poverty, disease and natural disaster. The charitable organization, headquartered in Rockford, was founded in 1994 and has delivered recycled and new playground equipment to children in more than 60 countries worldwide.
