Meet Sweet P. Doll Workshops

Posted on: September 20, 2018

Sweet P. Doll Studio’s owner, Paula Breunig, has been offering fun and unique workshops for young children and their dolls for the past eight years.

“The studio was created using my expertise as an interior designer and as an art teacher,” said Breunig, who currently teaches art to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade at All Saints Catholic Academy. “I enjoy working with park districts that allow me to bring my mobile studio to the kids. The stations include a school, a salon, a campground, and a castle. The kids love playing in these unique, make-believe environments, where their imaginations can run wild.”

The Sweet P. Doll workshops are geared towards kids age 4 to 9. The participants bring along their favorite doll; clothing and activities work best with American Girl-style dolls. If a participant doesn’t have a doll to bring, one can be borrowed from Breunig for the workshop.

“Each month, the workshop theme changes,” explained Breunig. “For the Glen Ellyn Park District’s workshop on November 10th, we’ll make turkey-themed aprons for each girl and a matching apron for their doll. We’ll fix up the doll’s hair and the little girl’s hair, and each will get an accessory that matches the theme of the workshop. We’ll paint the girls’ fingernails using color signature dot nail painting. They’ll get to play in each station, and will do a craft.”

Feedback after the workshops are always positive. “Before they leave, the girls want to sign up for the next workshop,” added Breunig. “Since everything is so customized, it’s important to sign up in advance.”

In September, the Sweet P. Doll workshop focused on “back to school”, offering a hoodie for the dolls that had the participant’s favorite school name on the front. “People are surprised at how customized it is,” said Breunig.

Two 90-minute Turkey Apron sessions, beginning at 10:00 am and 12:00 pm, are being offered on November 10th. The Holiday PJ Party workshop will be held December 8th, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm. All Glen Ellyn Park District workshops will be held at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center. For more information about the Sweet P.
