Ice Conditions Update: 1/24/20

Posted on: January 24, 2020

The 2019-2020 winter has not provided favorable conditions for outdoor ice skating. Unfortunately, Lake Ellyn has yet to reach the 6-inch ice thickness required for safe skating and periods of warmer temperatures (e.g. above freezing), snowfall, and rain has diminished the ice at all locations. We will continue to monitor the ice daily and hope Mother Nature provides better conditions in the next few weeks!

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Please refrain from walking onto the ice when the red light on top of the Boathouse is on, throwing debris onto the ice surface, and absolutely no ice fishing. All actions further complicate the District’s ability to provide safe and quality ice skating.

STAY CONNECTED: For updates regarding skating opportunities at Lake Ellyn, Lake Foxcroft, and Newton Park, visit www.gepark.org/hotline. All locations are closed at the time of this posting.

OTHER SKATING OPTIONS: The Wheaton Park District has two refrigerated outdoor ice rinks near Mariano’s Grocery Store in Wheaton. Skating is free to both residents and nonresidents. You must have your own skates. If you need skates, check with Paul’s Shoe Service, 486 N Main St, Glen Ellyn, (630) 790-1030, as they have used skates for sale and exchange. Click here for more information.
