Athletics Update: New Sports Guidelines Released by Governor Pritzker

Posted on: July 29, 2020

July 29, 2020: Governor Pritzker just announced new restrictions for youth and adult recreational athletics. This includes, but is not limited to, park district sports programs, school-based sports (IHSA and IESA), travel clubs, and recreational leagues. In addition, IHSA has also presented their plans regarding Illinois high school sports for the 2020-2021 school year.

The new DCEO all-sports guidance categorizes sports into three risk levels: low, medium, or high. The categories are based on the amount of contact between athletes and their proximity during play. The guidance sets four levels of play allowed based on current public health conditions within each category.

While the Park District will have to further review the new guidelines and develop in-depth plans, we remain confident the Park District can still provide safe opportunities for fall sports with modifications and specific protocols. Your continued patience and support is appreciated. More information will be forthcoming on fall athletics.
