On Sunday, September 15, the Glen Ellyn Park District and Charlie’s Corner Foundation hosted the magical Glow in the Park Lantern Walk at Lake Ellyn Park. The event not only brought the community together for a night of family fun but also raised an impressive $4,406 to support the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Community Gathers for Fun and Giving
Attendees enjoyed a variety of family-friendly activities, including live music by Tres Moustache, face painting, balloon artistry, a bubble show, lawn games, and an inflatable obstacle course and slide. Kids and families also had the chance to meet their favorite superheroes and princesses thanks to the League of Enchantment, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit known for bringing beloved characters to life for local hospitals and charitable events.
The evening’s highlight was the enchanting lantern walk around the lake, kicked off by live music from the Glenbard West marching band. Participants could decorate lanterns on-site or bring their own, creating a stunning display of light. Refreshments from Heavenly Hot Dogs and Kona Ice added to the festive atmosphere.
Park District Thanks Partners and Participants
“We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support from our community that made the Glow in the Park Lantern Walk such a success,” said Courtney O’Kray, Superintendent of Marketing & Communications at the Glen Ellyn Park District. “A special thank you goes to our partner, Charlie’s Corner Foundation; our sponsors, Kelly Stetler Real Estate Team and Glen Ellyn Bank & Trust; the wonderful volunteers from the League of Enchantment; the Glenbard West marching band for adding to the festivities; and Kona Ice for their generous donation.”
Event Raises Crucial Funds for Lurie Children’s NICU
The funds raised will benefit the NICU at Lurie Children’s Hospital, aiding in the critical care of newborns. Since its launch in 2017, the Glow in the Park Lantern Walk has become a cherished community event. Over the years, it has raised more than $25,000 for the NICU at Lurie Children’s Hospital, reflecting the community’s commitment to supporting newborns in need. The Park District is proud to support this important cause and looks forward to hosting another successful event next year.
