Posted on: March 28, 2016

March 28, 2016 — The Glen Ellyn Park District is pleased to announce that Rob Weber has been selected to fill the vacant Board of Commissioners position at the Park District. Rob has lived in Glen Ellyn for twelve years with his wife and three children who attend District 41 schools and Glenbard West High School.

Over the years, Rob and his family have been very active with the Park District in a variety of ways including preschool, summer programs, athletics, and special events. He would now like to give back to the community by providing perspective as a parent, participant and a taxpayer. Rob currently works for a software and service company as a vice president and general counsel.

“I agree with the Park District mission statement and would like to be part of the Board as it continues to be a good steward of the Park District,” stated Rob Weber. The mission statement states: “The Glen Ellyn Park District is driven to foster diverse, community-based leisure opportunities through a harmonious blend of quality recreation programs, facilities and open space which will enhance the quality of life into the future.”

On Tuesday, April 12, Rob will be formally appointed and sworn into office, assuming the role of Park Board Commissioner from that date until May, 2017.

In January 2016, Glen Ellyn Park District Board Commissioner Gary Mayo announced his intention to move outside the Park District boundaries in April. In anticipation of Commissioner Mayo’s departure, the Park District conducted a search for potential candidates to serve as Park District Commissioner for approximately one year until the next Park District Commissioner election, which will take place on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

As part of the process to fill the vacancy, the Glen Ellyn Park District posted the announcement on its website and social media along with numerous news publications. Ten qualified, civic-minded and community-oriented candidates applied for the opportunity. All applications were reviewed and a select few were chosen to be interviewed.
