Submit Your Jack-o’-Lantern for the Pumpkins on Main Display

Glow in the Park Lantern Walk Shines Bright, Raising $4,406 for Lurie Children’s Hospital

On Sunday, September 15, the Glen Ellyn Park District and Charlie’s Corner Foundation hosted the magical Glow in the Park Lantern Walk at Lake Ellyn Park. Share Your Thoughts on Glen Oak Park: Join Our Open House on September 19

Residents who would like to provide input on the future of Glen Oak Park and its tot lot playground are invited to attend an Open House on Thursday, September 19, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center. Drop in to learn about the project, share your thoughts, and ask any questions. Everyone is welcome, and no RSVP is needed. Frank Johnson Center Open House & Ribbon Cutting

Join us at the Dr. Frank Johnson Center, 490 Kenilworth Avenue, for an Open House and Ribbon Cutting event on Tuesday, September 17. The event will start at 5:30 pm, with the ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 6:30 pm. Originally built in the 1920s as an ice storage unit, the old facility had outlived its usefulness. The new, state-of-the-art building supports the Parks Department’s work across 300 acres of parkland. Come explore the upgraded amenities and enjoy light refreshments!

Notice of Venue Change

Notice is hereby given that the Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners has changed the venue for its Regular Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, will begin at 7 pm and will be held at the Frank Johnson Center, Maintenance Center facility, located at 490 Kenilworth Avenue, Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

An Open House will begin at 5:30 pm, followed by a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 6:30 pm. Staff will be on hand to lead tours of the facility, and light refreshments will be served, followed by our Regular Meeting.

Frank Johnson Center Playground Reopens

The Frank Johnson Center Playground is open. Remediation work has been completed, and the playground has been reinstalled with a new wood chip surface and inspected for safety.

Outdoor Activities Canceled for August 27

An excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service is in effect for Tuesday, August 27, 2024. To ensure the safety of our participants and staff, all outdoor programs scheduled for 2 pm or later today are canceled. Indoor programs will continue as scheduled. Unless otherwise notified via email by the program supervisor, outdoor activities are set to resume on Wednesday, August 28.

All Glen Ellyn Park District facilities will maintain their regular operating hours. Additionally, Ackerman SFC will serve as a designated cooling center during these hours. Read More »

Spring Avenue Recreation Center Reopens at 8:30 am – Dog Park Now Open

Great news! The Dog Park is now open, and the Spring Avenue Recreation Center will reopen at 8:30 am today, Tuesday, August 27, following the completion of HVAC installation. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing you!

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the New Gymnastics Center at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center

Join us on Thursday, September 5, from 5 to 6:30 pm for the grand opening of the new 6,000-square-foot gymnastics center at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center! This event celebrates the successful completion of the final phase of our Ackerman SFC renovation project, made possible by the 2022 referendum. Clay Tennis Courts Renovations Complete; Membership Fee Waived for the Season!

Renovations are complete for the historic clay tennis courts, located on the western edge of Lake Ellyn Park! Originally built in 1924, these courts are a favorite among clay tennis enthusiasts. With fresh clay surfacing, new lines and nets, an upgraded irrigation system, and a new enclosed fence, the courts welcomed players back on Friday, August 16!

Interested in trying out the courts?
We’re waiving the membership fee for the rest of the season! Just visit the Spring Avenue Recreation Center to process your membership and pick up a key. The courts will be open until November 1, 2024, when they will close for the winter.

Spring Avenue Delayed Opening on Tuesday, August 27

Due to the installation of HVAC units, access to the Spring Avenue Recreation Center and Dog Park will be unavailable from 6 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, August 27. A helicopter lift is necessary for this project, and we want to ensure everyone’s safety during the operation. We apologize for the inconvenience and will keep you updated through the District hotline if there are any changes or if an earlier opening becomes possible. The lap pool at Sunset Pool will be temporarily closed for necessary maintenance, with an anticipated reopening in approximately one week.
