Volunteers Make a Difference!

From the Freedom Four to youth soccer, the Glen Ellyn Park District relies on volunteers to make many of its programs and events successful. Becoming a Glen Ellyn Park District volunteer has its benefits. You can get outdoors, make new friends, enhance work and life experiences, and most of all…have FUN doing it! If you are looking for an opportunity to get involved in the community, please consider volunteering with the Park District!


Get Started on Giving Back

Glen Ellyn Park District volunteers are essential to the success of our programs. Any amount of time that you can give is greatly appreciated. Please be advised a completed Volunteer Application is required and a background check may be performed for volunteer positions and some positions have age requirements. Restoration Work Days
Help restore your neighborhood natural areas! Join us any of these mornings to help clear invasive plants, clean-up trash, plant native plants and seeds, maintain trails and more. This is a great opportunity for families and service groups to give back to their community. Geared for ages 5+. View the Restoration Work Days schedule.


Volunteer Photographers
Help showcase everything Glen Ellyn has to offer! Take photos of our events, parks, trails, sports fields and recreation programs. Photos are always needed for use in our program brochure, websites and in promotional materials. Please contact cokray@gepark.org for details.


Eggs-trordinary Egg Hunt
When: Friday, March 30 from 8am-11:45am
Where: Maryknoll Park, 845 Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 4-8 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, event check-in, and general activities. Volunteers are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event!

Gone Fishin’ Derby
When: Saturday, June 16 from 7am-10:30am
Where: Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 3-5 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, event check-in, and general event activities. Volunteers asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event!

Touch-a-Truck
When: Saturday May 5 from 9:30a-1:30pm
Where: Maryknoll Park – 845 Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 3-5 volunteers ages 18 and up
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, help regulate long lines, and monitor inflatables/attractions. Volunteers will be given t-shirts to wear and are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and friendly.

Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta
When: Saturday, June 30 from 9:30am-3pm
Where: Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 5-10 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, collecting/moving oars and life jackets. Volunteers will be given t-shirts to wear and are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event!

Youth Cheer Coaches
When: July 1st  – December 1st  
Where: District 41 Schools
Who: Volunteers age 21 and up
What: Coaches needed to lead cheer practices and aid in the creation of a competition routine.  Head coaches will be aided by Jr. Coaches in the formation of this routine. Please sign up by April 1st.

Family Fun Night
When: Wednesday, July 18 from 5pm-8:30pm
Where: Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 3-5 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, concessions, bounce houses, crafts, and general event activities. Volunteers will be given t-shirts to wear and are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event!

Glow in the Park Lantern Walk
When: Sunday, September 16 from 4pm-8:30pm

Who: 5-10 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, bounce houses, lantern crafts, and general event activities. Volunteers will be given t-shirts to wear and are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event!

Lakers Fall Classic Soccer Tournament
When: September 28– September 30, 2018
Where: Ackerman Park, 800 St. Charles Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Who: Volunteers age 16 and up
What: Various positions including registration check-in, concessions, field marshal, parking, set-up, clean-up. All volunteers will be provided t-shirts to wear. Closed toe shoes are required.

Boo Bash
When: Saturday, October 13 from 8:30am-12pm
Where: Maryknoll Park – 845 Pershing Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 3-10 volunteers ages 12 to adult
What: Volunteers will help with setup/cleanup, and dress as costumed characters along the Trick-or-Treat trail. Volunteers will be provided with a costume for the event, but are asked to dress for the weather and wear closed toe shoes. Volunteers should be enthusiastic, love kids, and willing to have fun with the event!

Pumpkin Flotilla Fest
When: Sunday, October 21 from 3pm-7:30pm

Polar Express
When: Dates to be determined
Where: Glen Ellyn Metra Station (South Platform), Glen Ellyn, IL
Who: 4-6 volunteers ages 14 to adult
What: Volunteers are needed to dress as holiday characters, sing carols, entertain riders. Volunteers will be given t-shirts or costumes to wear and are asked to dress for the weather. Volunteers should be enthusiastic and willing to have fun with the event and participants!

Youth Basketball Coaches (2019 Season)
When: Jan 7th – March 16th
Where: Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center, 800 St. Charles Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Who: Volunteers age 18 and up
What: Coaches needed to lead 1st-8th grade teams in practices and manage game play.  All volunteers will be provided t-shirts to wear. Training and practice plans will be provided. Please sign up by November 1st.
