January 24, 2020 The 2019-2020 winter has not provided favorable conditions for outdoor ice skating. Unfortunately, Lake Ellyn has yet to reach the 6-inch ice thickness required for safe skating and periods of warmer temperatures (e.g. above freezing), snowfall, and rain has diminished the ice at all locations. January 23, 2020 The Glen Ellyn Park District was awarded a $400,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The OSLAD grant will fund a significant portion of planned improvements at Newton Park including a renovated playground with an inclusive emphasis, enhanced park amenities including a seating area and receptacles, small sensory garden, accessible path to spectator area of baseball/softball field and turf field, skate park improvements, and enhanced connectivity. The program is open to boys in first through eighth grade, with the season running from April to early June. The inaugural Grow the Game Tournament, hosted at Glenbard West, is a unique and important event highlighting 14 girls’ basketball programs all led by female Head Coaches. November 25, 2019 For a limited time, students (age 14+) can purchase a 1-week pass to Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center for just $15! Passes must be purchased from November 20, 2019 to November 30, 2019 and include access to the 7,000 sq. ft. fitness center, the popular indoor rock-climbing wall, open gym/turf hours, and the elevated walking track. Also included are more than 50 group fitness classes held each week.

November 13, 2019 Guests at Fall Fête experienced a night of whimsy at the Lake Ellyn Boathouse on Saturday, November 2nd as they helped raise $61,000 for the Friends of Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Foundation’s scholarship program, which allows residents experiencing financial hardship to attain reduced and/or no-fee recreation and athletic programs through the Glen Ellyn Park District. September 30, 2019 This past weekend, the annual Lakers Fall Classic soccer tournament was cancelled due to extreme weather. Over the years, the event has experienced challenging conditions such as heavy rain, intense heat, extreme cold, and even snow. Unfortunately, Friday’s weather was unprecedented and caused the first cancellation of the entire tournament. The powerful rain and intermittent thunderstorms that began at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and continued (off and on) until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday morning made for unplayable conditions the rest of the weekend, particularly when combined with the low temperatures and continued precipitation throughout parts of Saturday and Sunday.
