July 21, 2022
As students head back to school and begin fall activities, it becomes increasingly difficult each year to staff Sunset Pool from August through Labor Day. But you can help! We’re seeking part-time adult lifeguards to watch over the safety of children, families, and other swimmers through the end of the season. Lifeguarding as an adult is a great way to re-enter the workforce, stay active, engage with others, and give back. For a limited time, we are offering:
- FREE lifeguard training and uniform
- Up to $200 to be used for Park District programs (must be able to work until September 5)
- Receive $100 if you work a minimum of 30 hours from date of certification to 9/5.
- Receive $200 if you work a minimum of 40 hours from date of certification to 9/5.
Apply online by July 31st at gepark.org/job »

July 12, 2022 July 12, 2022 – Recently, a strike by International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 against three construction materials companies – Lehigh Hanson, Lafarge Holcim and Vulcan Materials – began June 7 and has halted work at 30 quarries in northern Illinois that produce aggregate material, such as sand, gravel, and stone, impacting construction projects throughout the Chicago Area. This gravel material is critical to the Lake Ellyn Shoreline project and is contributing to the delay of the project. A permeable paver walkway will be installed after the retaining wall. The base of the walkway is the aggregate material that is hard to source at the moment due to the protest. The general contractor is making every effort to obtain materials where available to finish the project.
