Spring Sports Registration Deadlines

Spring sports registration is underway! Below is a list of upcoming league offerings and important registration deadlines. Click the program name for more information and to register.

 

Notice of Meeting Time Change

Notice is hereby given that the Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners has changed the start time for their Regular Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The Workshop Meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Tuesday, January 11, 2022 will begin at 6:30 p.m. instead of its regularly scheduled time of 7:00 p.m. and will take place at its regularly scheduled location of 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL.

Common Good + Polar Plaza

Beginning December 16, Common Good Cocktail House will be selling Hot Toddies at the Polar Plaza! You can now indulge in their signature crafted drinks every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Learn more about the Polar Plaza »

To purchase alcohol, you must be 21 years of age or older. Alcoholic drinks must be consumed in the Polar Plaza. Outside alcohol is not permitted. Please note, Common Good will not be at the Polar Plaza on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, Dec. 31, or Jan. 1.

IUOE Local 150 Protest

At the southwest corner of Main Street and Hill Avenue, in front of the Main Street Recreation Center, protest signs and associated vehicles have been present within the right of way over the past few weeks. IUOE Local 150 is in dispute with Hacienda Landscaping Inc. Hacienda is currently providing the construction services for improvements to Newton Park. While the dispute has nothing to do with the Glen Ellyn Park District and is not related to quality of work or performance, Local 150 has the right to protest and establish a lawful ambulatory picket. Flu Shot and COVID-19 Booster Clinic

State Representative Terra Costa will be hosting a walk-up flu shot and COVID-19 booster (Pfizer, Moderna, and a limited amount of J&J) clinic with the Glen Ellyn Park District, Glen Ellyn Library, DuPage Health Coalition, and Jewel-Osco at Ackerman Sport & Fitness Center (800 St. Charles Road in Glen Ellyn) from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 11. Winter 2022 Playbook Coming Nov. 30

Our Winter Playbook will be published exclusively on our website Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Registration for programs within the Winter Playbook will open Saturday, December 4 at 9 a.m. for residents and Saturday, December 11 at 9 a.m. for nonresidents. 

Kick Off to the Polar Plaza on Saturday, November 27

Join in for holiday merriment with live music, festive activities, and a visit with Santa at the Kick Off to the Polar Plaza, celebrating Shop Small Saturday, from Noon to 3 p.m. on November 27 at the Polar Plaza, 501 Crescent Blvd, in downtown Glen Ellyn. Plus, enjoy a free showing of Arthur Christmas starting at 10:30 a.m. at Glen Art Movie Theatre, 540 Crescent Blvd. Read More »

The Pop-Up Polar Plaza is returning to downtown Glen Ellyn

In partnership with the Village of Glen Ellyn, the District is excited to announce the return of the Polar Plaza Downtown Pop-Up Skating Rink in late November. Free to residents and visitors to the area, the rink has a synthetic (plastic) surface which replicates a regular ice surface. Look for more information, including the opening date, to be posted on our website and social media in mid-November.

Holiday Light Recycling

Think green! Before tossing those broken light strands in the trash and adding to the landfill, consider recycling them instead! Glen Ellyn Park District is once again partnering with Elgin Recycling to provide a solution for used/broken lights and extension cords from now through January 31, 2022. Read More »

Toys for Tots Toy Drive with Character!

Donate a toy for Toys for Tots to meet and take pictures with your favorite superheroes and princesses!

The Toys for Tots Toy Drive with Character will return to Ackerman SFC from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5. Donated toys must be new and unwrapped. Characters are subject to change but our event partner, The Alliance of Legends, expects Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Ursula, Belle, Loki, Elsa, Anna, Prince Hans, Snow White, and Rapunzel to visit. In 2020, more than 500 toys were collected for area children. We hope you will help us exceed that number in 2021!

Masks are required to be worn at all times at this event. No registration required.

Blood Drive and Food Drive on Nov. 23

Blood Drive: Blood supplies are at a critical low. Save lives by donating at Ackerman SFC from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 23. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ups welcome! If you donated whole blood before September 29, you are due to give again. Make an appointment »

Drive-Thru Drop-Off Food Drive: Donate items to help fill the shelves at Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. Just pull up to the Ackerman SFC main entrance from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 23 and we’ll do the rest!

Flu Shot and COVID-19 Booster Clinic

State Representative Terra Costa Howard / the DuPage Health Coalition / Glen Ellyn Park District / Glen Ellyn Public Library / Jewel-Osco will provide a vaccine booster and flu shot clinic at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, 800 St. Charles Road, Glen Ellyn, Saturday, Oct. 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. No appointments are needed as all walk-ins are welcome for this event. Blood Drive and Food Drive on October 21

Inclusive-Focused Playground Coming to Newton Park

During the October 5th Park Board meeting, board members approved bids for the redevelopment of the Newton Park playground. The plan includes replacing the existing playground with equipment with an inclusive emphasis, providing shaded seating, and new surfacing. Read More »

Shoreline Improvements at Lake Ellyn Park

This coming fall, the Glen Ellyn Park District will embark on the next phase of Lake Ellyn Park improvements. A new shoreline path extending from the Lake Ellyn Boathouse to the fishing pier will be constructed thanks to an anonymous donation. The 12-foot-wide path will feature permeable pavers as well as sections of masonry seat wall. Read More »

Touch-a-Truck Parking

Limited parking for Saturday’s Touch-A-Truck event will be available within Maryknoll Park, 845 Pershing Avenue. Overflow parking is available near Building 4 at Roosevelt Glen Corporate Center, 799 Roosevelt Road. Please use caution when crossing Route 53 and utilize the pedestrian crosswalk. September 11th Memorial Service

Today, the Glen Ellyn Park District remembers those killed and injured on September 11, 2001, their families, and the countless heroes who responded without hesitation that day. The public is welcome to join the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company at its annual memorial service commemorating the events of September 11, 2001. The memorial service will take place today at 6:30 p.m. outside the front of Fire Station 61 at Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The service is expected to last approximately 30 minutes.
