Sunset Pool

Sunset Pool is closed for the 2020 season.

After much consideration, discussion and evaluation, the Glen Ellyn Park District has determined that it is in the best interest of the community to close Sunset Pool for the 2020 season. Refunds for 2020 Sunset Pool passes that have already been purchased will be processed within three weeks.

While the importance and value Sunset Pool provides to the community is immeasurable, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of visitors and staff is the highest priority. Based on the guidelines and restrictions currently in place as well as those outlined in the next phase within the Governor’s Restore Illinois Plan, the facility could not be operated safely or practically.

In addition to the normal pool operations, the facility would need to comply with social distancing guidelines, gathering limits, and cleaning/disinfecting guidelines, many of which have yet to be fully developed for swimming pools. It was unclear how the pool would be able to open safely and effectively while complying to those strict limits and protocols issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and therefore the decision was made to remain closed. This closure also means that swim lessons and aquatic programs will not be held this summer.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we struggled with this decision and the unfortunate outcome.
