Free Week at Ackerman SFC

The Park District is excited to offer free access to the fitness center and group fitness classes at Ackerman SFC, 800 St. Charles Road, from September 11 to September 17. Panfish Park Public Meeting

The Village of Glen Ellyn and Glen Ellyn Park District invite you to a Panfish Park community meeting on Tuesday, September 19 at 5pm at the Glen Ellyn Police Department. The meeting will detail upcoming improvements proposed for Panfish Park and master planning for the future of the park, overviewing specific goals for the playground and infrastructure. This is an open-house format, with a short presentation planned for 5pm and 6pm. The public is invited to attend and bring questions or comments. Your attendance and input are appreciated.

Spring Avenue Dog Park maintenance closure

Please be advised that the Spring Avenue Dog Park will be closed for maintenance on Wednesday, September 6, from 6am to 3pm. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Heat Warning Update for Thursday, August 24

The National Weather Service’s excessive heat warning continues today, Thursday, August 24, 2023. For the safety of participants and staff, all outdoor programs scheduled for today are canceled. Indoor programs will proceed as planned. Outdoor activities are set to resume on Friday, August 25.

All Glen Ellyn Park District facilities will maintain their regular operating hours. Additionally, Ackerman SFC will serve as a designated cooling center during these hours.

Please remember to:
• Limit strenuous activity.
• Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
• Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
• Never leave children or pets in hot cars.

An excessive heat warning from the National Weather Service is in effect from Wednesday, August 23, 2023, to Thursday, August 24, 2023. To ensure the safety of our participants and staff, all outdoor programs scheduled for today are canceled. Indoor programs will continue as scheduled.

For Thursday, August 24, registered participants will be notified via email by the program supervisor if programs are canceled.

All Glen Ellyn Park District facilities will maintain their regular operating hours. Additionally, Ackerman SFC will serve as a designated cooling center during these hours.

Exciting Update: Free weekdays at Maryknoll Splash Park

Starting from Monday, August 21 through Sunday, September 24, 2023, the Maryknoll Splash Park will be available for free use (at your own risk) from Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm. However, the admission fee will be applicable for both children and adults on Saturdays and Sundays.

As part of our ongoing commitment to your safety and well-being, the District will be conducting fire drills at Ackerman SFC and Main Street Recreation Center. These drills are designed to ensure that our staff is well-prepared to respond effectively in case of an emergency.

Renovations coming to Ackerman SFC and Ackerman Park

Reminder: Sunset Pool closes for the season on August 13, 2023

Exciting improvements are coming to Sunset Pool, as part of the voter-approved referendum in 2022. These include new water slide features, a splash pad, zero-depth water play area, family changing areas, shade structures, outdoor seating, and important infrastructure upgrades.

In our efforts to ensure a great 2024 season, the 2023 pool season will end on Sunday, August 13, allowing construction to begin and providing the best opportunity for the pool to open for Memorial Day weekend 2024. Read More »

The Park District and the Village are collaborating on the purchase, development, and operation of the Downtown Event Park. We value your input and invite you to participate in Community Survey #2. Notice of Public Meeting

The Glen Ellyn Park District will be seeking grant funding for improvements at Village Green Park and invites you to attend a public input meeting to view the plan, ask questions, and provide comments. The proposed improvements include pathways, fencing, seating amenities, and field improvements. The Park District will provide an overview of the planned improvements and will be available to answer questions during the meeting. The meeting will be held at Village Green Park on Thursday, August 10, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. If you are unable to attend, please email your comments to [email protected].

Ackerman SFC HVAC Repairs Rescheduled, Delayed Opening on July 19, 2023

Due to the rescheduling of HVAC repairs previously planned for Tuesday, July 18, Ackerman SFC will have a delayed opening on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. The facility will open at 8:30 a.m. New units will be installed via helicopter on the roof, which will require the closure of the facility to the public during that time. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

July Blood & Food Drive

Get ready to make a difference at the upcoming Blood and Food Drive event on July 22, 2023, held at Ackerman SFC from 9am to 3pm. Your generosity can help save lives and support those in need. Walk-ins are welcome for the blood drive, but we recommend booking an appointment in advance by clicking here.

In addition to the blood drive, we are also collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries for donation to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. When you arrive, simply drop off your contributions at the main entrance, and together we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Air Quality Alert: Facility Closures and Program Cancellations

June 28, 2023, 3pm: The District has been closely monitoring air quality changes throughout Wednesday, June 28. Unfortunately, air quality has declined, resulting in worsening conditions. As a precautionary measure, Sunset Pool, Holes & Knolls Mini Golf, and Maryknoll Splash Park will remain closed for the day. Outdoor programs will be relocated indoors whenever possible, and if indoor space is unavailable, they may be canceled. To stay updated with the latest information, please refer to our hotline at gepark.org/hotline. Registered participants will also receive email updates regarding the status of their programs.

“Fireworks from the Fishing Pier” raffle raises a record-breaking $4,737 for the Scholarship Fund

Congratulations to The Cagadas Family, the lucky winners of the “Fireworks from the Fishing Pier” raffle! With amazing support from our community, we raised a record-breaking $4,737 for the Friends of Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation. These funds will benefit the Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to individuals who might otherwise be unable to participate in Park District activities, camps, sports, and more. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s generosity and participation!

Air Quality Alert: Facility Closures and Program Cancellations

June 27, 2023: Due to dangerous air quality conditions and in order to prioritize the health and safety of our participants, patrons, and staff, the Glen Ellyn Park District has made the decision to close Sunset Pool, Holes & Knolls Mini Golf, and Maryknoll Splash Park starting at 5pm. Additionally, all athletic activities have been canceled.

According to Air Now, an affiliate of the United States EPA and CDC, the air quality in Glen Ellyn has been reported as “very unhealthy.” Individuals with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and teenagers are strongly advised to avoid engaging in physical activities outdoors. For others, it is recommended to refrain from participating in strenuous outdoor activities. For more information, visit airnow.gov.
