“Fireworks from the Fishing Pier” raffle raises a record-breaking $4,737 for the Scholarship Fund

Congratulations to The Cagadas Family, the lucky winners of the “Fireworks from the Fishing Pier” raffle! With amazing support from our community, we raised a record-breaking $4,737 for the Friends of Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation. These funds will benefit the Scholarship Fund, providing financial assistance to individuals who might otherwise be unable to participate in Park District activities, camps, sports, and more. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s generosity and participation!

Air Quality Alert: Facility Closures and Program Cancellations

June 27, 2023: Due to dangerous air quality conditions and in order to prioritize the health and safety of our participants, patrons, and staff, the Glen Ellyn Park District has made the decision to close Sunset Pool, Holes & Knolls Mini Golf, and Maryknoll Splash Park starting at 5pm. Additionally, all athletic activities have been canceled.

According to Air Now, an affiliate of the United States EPA and CDC, the air quality in Glen Ellyn has been reported as “very unhealthy.” Individuals with heart or lung disease, older adults, children, and teenagers are strongly advised to avoid engaging in physical activities outdoors. For others, it is recommended to refrain from participating in strenuous outdoor activities. For more information, visit airnow.gov.

Gymnastics Expansion and Facility Improvements Open House

Join us for a public open house on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center, located at 800 St. Charles Road. The event will take place from 5:30–6:30pm. During this time, attendees will have the opportunity to review preliminary information about the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center gymnastics expansion and facility improvements. Park District staff will be present to answer questions, address comments, and listen to suggestions. Comment cards will be provided at the event, where you can also share your feedback.

Park District installs Illinois’ first playground with equipment made of recycled ocean waste

Glen Ellyn Park District recently opened a new eco-friendly playground at Sunset Park–the first of its kind in Illinois–made from post-consumer recycled materials such as ocean waste, used textiles, and plastic bags.

The newly-renovated playground uses sustainably-conscious equipment purchased from playground manufacturer KOMPAN, whose GreenLine products are developed by repurposing post-consumer waste, giving new life to materials, and reducing carbon emissions. Read More »

Village and Park District formalize purchase and lease agreement for recreational use properties

The Village of Glen Ellyn and the Glen Ellyn Park District have entered into a formal agreement for the purchase of the former US Bank property located in Downtown Glen Ellyn, and the lease of both Manor Woods and Panfish Park. This agreement will provide for the development and maintenance of these areas for community use, benefitting the entire Glen Ellyn community for years to come. Read More »

April Blood & Food Drive

Spring into giving at the blood and food drive on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Ackerman SFC from 9am–3pm. Walk-ins are welcome for the blood drive, but appointments are encouraged at https://bit.ly/3zbctId. Three elected to Board of Commissioners

On April 4, 2023, the community elected as Glen Ellyn Park District Park Board of Commissioners Mary Crickmore, Kathy Cornell, and Ben Stortz for four-year terms. The election commission has 21 days to canvass votes and make results official. In anticipation of the outcome, the Glen Ellyn Park District congratulates the newly elected Board members.

Sports Trivia Night raises $7,000 for Park District Scholarship Fund

This year’s 9th annual Glen Ellyn Sports Trivia Night, held on February 10, 2023, raised $7,000 for the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Scholarship Fund, a fee-assistance program for low-income residents who wish to enroll in Park District programs. We would like to thank Greg and Katie Fischer, the organizers of the event, for selecting the Park District as this year’s recipient and St. Petronille Church for hosting this fun-filled night. Glen Ellyn Park District Executive Director to retire

After serving the Glen Ellyn community for over a decade, Dave Harris has decided to retire as Executive Director of the Glen Ellyn Park District on March 7, 2023. During his time, and with assistance from Staff and the Board, the Park District implemented significant improvements throughout its many facilities, parks, and open spaces and created many high-quality recreational experiences for its residents. As explained by Dave, “With the recent passing of the referendum and those related projects, and other improvements getting ready to break ground, I feel confident that now is a good opportunity to retire. In doing so, I am confident that the Park District is in outstanding shape to continue providing exceptional recreational services, programs, parks, and facilities for the years to come.” We thank Dave for his efforts and for his contributions to our community.
