On April 2, 2019, the community elected as Glen Ellyn Park District Park Board of Commissioners Paul O. Bischoff Jr., Kathy Cornell, and Ben Stortz for four-year terms. The new Board members will be seated at the Park Board meeting on May 7, 2019. Prior to that date, the election commission has 21 days to canvass votes and make results official. In anticipation of the outcome, the Glen Ellyn Park District congratulates the newly elected Board members and thanks Commissioner Wilson and Jeff West for extending the time and effort to run for office.

February 27, 2019 Cheerleading is a fun physical activity that can be just as intense as any other sport. It involves tumbling, stunting, and jumping, along with the performance of dance and cheer routines. The Glen Ellyn Park District offers a cheer program for boys and girls in grades 2 through 8. Squads will cheer on the sidelines and at halftime for the Golden Eagles Tackle and Flag Football teams and will participate in local area cheer competitions throughout the season (July through early December). During the last week of February, Lake Ellyn Boathouse is converted back to a rental facility and is no longer available as a warming shelter for ice skaters. Skating will continue at Lake Ellyn for as long as conditions are safe and conducive for skating.
For the latest on ice conditions at Lake Ellyn and the other outdoor rinks, please visit www.gepark.org/weather. At Lake Ellyn, you may also check the light on the south end of the Boathouse roof. A red light indicates conditions are unsafe for skating. A yellow light indicates safe ice conditions, but the Boathouse is closed.

February 20, 2019 This year’s Chocolate, Cheese, and Wine event raised $4,000 for the Glen Ellyn Park District’s Scholarship Fund, which enables residents in need to receive financial assistance for Park District programs and activities. Chocolate, Cheese, and Wine is offered in partnership with the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce, who presented the check at the Park Board meeting on Tuesday, February 19. Read More »

The Glen Ellyn Park District has published its Annual Report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2018. Within the Annual Report are highlights of the Park District’s 2018 financial results and achievements. The report also contains information on natural area restoration projects, community events, partnerships, athletics and upcoming projects for 2019.

The Glen Ellyn Park District was awarded a $400,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The OSLAD grant will fund a portion of the planned phase IV improvements at Ackerman Park, which includes renovation of the softball “hub”, an artificial turf athletic field, irrigation and drainage upgrades, bioswales, improved grass fields, an outdoor exercise area, and a trail system throughout the entire park. The next meeting of Board Commissioners will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center, 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and will begin at its normal time of 7:00 p.m.
