Shop with a Cop 2018

On Saturday, December 1, Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center hosted the annual “Shop with a Cop” event. Children start their day at Ackerman SFC having breakfast with Santa Claus and participating in games and activities before heading out to shop for holiday gifts escorted and transported by a law enforcement officer within their squad car. This is a very special event for the Officers and the children involved and the Park District is happy to be able to provide the location for the day!

Organized by members of the Glen Ellyn Police Department in partnership with the Glen Ellyn Park District and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, the event is designed to help children in need throughout DuPage County by providing them with funds to buy presents and essentials for themselves and their family. Over 100 children and 110 police officers from 10 local units participated in this year’s event. Click here to view photos from the event.

Weather-Related Cancellations – Update on Classes Held at 3pm or Later

Monday, November 26: All Glen Ellyn Park District classes taking place at 3pm or later will be held as scheduled, with the exceptions of programs held at District 41 facilities which have been cancelled. All Park District facilities will remain open for regular business hours. Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center will have open gym available until 6pm and open turf available until 5pm.

Weather-Related Cancellations for Monday, November 26th

Due to the extreme winter weather conditions, all Glen Ellyn Park District programs occurring before 3pm (including preschool) on Monday, November 26th have been canceled. In addition, all programs scheduled at District 41 facilities are canceled for the day. An update on programs occurring after 3pm on Monday, November 26th will be posted on the Park District’s website by 2pm. All Glen Ellyn Park District facilities will remain open for regular business hours. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe and warm!

Skate Park Closed for 2018 Season

And another great season comes to an end! The Skate Park at Newton Park is now closed for the season. We will reopen the park in the spring as weather permits. See you on the ramps next year!

Winter 2019 Registration Dates

New Signs Installed at Lake Ellyn Park

Glen Ellyn Park District has completed installation of new outdoor signs throughout Lake Ellyn Park. The signs, which were part of Phase III of the Lake Ellyn Park Improvement Project, were made possible thanks to a generous donation to the Glen Ellyn Park District from an anonymous donor along with a grant through the O.S.L.A.D. program. Ackerman SFC Parking Lot is Now Open

Thank you for your patience and understanding! Construction is never fun and almost always inconvenient and disruptive. Through it all, our patrons were flexible and patient. While frustrating at times, they managed to make the best of the situation. The Glen Ellyn Park District is very appreciative of your continued patronage and hopes you will enjoy the newly renovated parking lot and entrance drive.

As a reminder, the project addressed the complete replacement of the main parking lot serving Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center and the upper Ackerman Park soccer fields. The parking lot, in severe disrepair, was over 30 years old and had only incurred minor repairs since it’s construction. Read More »

Main Street Recreation Center and President’s Park Playgrounds Now Open

The playgrounds located at Main Street Recreation Center and President’s Park are open! Both playgrounds were over 20 years old and, due to age and popularity, had begun to fall into disrepair. The District once again collaborated with Kids Around the World, who removed the President’s Park playground and will repurpose the old equipment to be used in a less fortunate community. Look for additional improvements, including new benches and garbage cans, in the near future.

Enjoy Fitness & Fun at Ackerman SFC’s Open House!

Staying active is the best way to get or maintain a healthy fitness level, and the Glen Ellyn Park District does its part by offering a wide variety of fitness options for adults and kids. On Saturday, November 3rd, from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center in Glen Ellyn will be holding an Open House to showcase the facility, the classes, and the other programs that make it one of Glen Ellyn’s premier fitness centers.
