March 9, 2018 It was an exciting season for the Platform Tennis teams in Glen Ellyn! The Glen Ellyn Men’s Travel Club had all 14 teams make it to the playoffs and four teams advance to the final matches. The women’s teams also had outstanding results, ending their seasons ranked toward the top of the leagues. The in-house leagues experienced a record number of players with over 90 men and women playing this past winter. For those unfamiliar with one of the fastest growing team sports in the country, Lacrosse is a clever combination of soccer, hockey, and basketball. It’s played with a stick (the crosse), which is used to catch, scoop, and throw a small rubber ball into the goal (net) of the opposing team. Like many personal trainers, Eric Su played a lot of sports as a young man. He had well-rounded interests, including football, basketball, and tennis. An interesting new sport is now offered through the Glen Ellyn Park District: Futsal soccer. According to Brad Thomas, Recreation Supervisor for the park district, the Futsal name comes from the Spanish term “Futbol Sala”, which translates to “Indoor Football”, or in the U.S., “Indoor Soccer”.
