Glen Ellyn Park District Releases 2016 Annual Report

The Glen Ellyn Park District has published its Annual Report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2016. Within the Annual Report are highlights of the Park District’s 2016 financial results and achievements. The report also contains information on natural area restoration projects, community events, partnerships, athletics and upcoming projects for 2017.

Ackerman SFC Parking Lot Status Update: 01/16/17

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) grant awarded to the Glen Ellyn Park District in October 2014 to provide partial funding to convert and repair the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center parking lot continues to be withheld by the State of Illinois. As a result, the Park District has put the parking lot repairs on-hold until a resolution is determined. Read More »

Ice Rinks Open in Wheaton: 01/04/17

As Glen Ellyn Park District awaits mother nature to cooperate in order to produce outdoor ice skating, the Wheaton Park District has just opened two outdoor refrigerated  ice rinks in close proximity to Mariano’s Grocery Store in Wheaton. Skating is free to both residents and non-residents. You must have your own skates. If you are in need of skates, check with Paul’s Shoe Service, 486 N Main St, Glen Ellyn, (630) 790-1030 as they have used skates for sale and exchange. Click here for more information.

2016 Winter Break Camps

Send your kids to come play over the winter break with camps at the Glen Ellyn Park District. Little ones (ages 4-6) can choose from soccer, basketball, floor hockey, gymnastics or the multi-sport camp. No two days are the same! Older kids (ages 7-12) can have fun and improve their skills with camps including: basketball shooting camp, dodgeball camp, tumbling camp, volleyball camp and more. For creative kids, try the heARTfelt Create Holiday Art Camp (ages 8-14)! There are also camps available for 3-year-olds. View the schedule.

Dog Park Water Fountain: 11/16/16

The water fountain at the Spring Avenue Dog Park has been shut off for the winter season. Notification will be posted as to when it will be available in the spring. Please be sure to bring water for your dog if needed when visiting the park. Thank you!

Newton Park Athletic Field Light Project

Notice of Public Meeting

Notice is hereby given that the time for the public meeting on the proposed Athletic Lights at Upper Newton Field at Newton Park for the Glen Ellyn Park District has been changed due to the possibility of a game 7 for the Chicago Cubs – Cleveland Indians World Series and will now be held from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center, located at 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. The start time will remain at 6:00 p.m. even if the there is no Game 7.

Message from the President

This past year has been a productive period for our Park District. Many large projects have been completed in 2016, including the historic restoration of the Lake Ellyn Boathouse, modernization and installation of new athletic lights at Ackerman Park, installation of shade/safety structures at Village Green (thanks to Glenbard West for contributing partial funding), construction of a new picnic shelter at Maryknoll Park and sediment removal from Lake Ellyn. Free Week Returns to Ackerman SFC in 2016

Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center will host its fourth annual Free Week from November 7-11. Non-members are invited to try out the fitness center equipment, walking/running track, and open gym and turf from 1-3:30pm each day.

Glen Ellyn Park District Strategic Planning Outcome Results in Lower Taxes

July 22, 2016 — On Tuesday, July 19th, the Glen Ellyn Park District Board voted to allow the referendum debt that funded the majority of the expenses to construct the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center to retire. As a result of the unanimous vote, residents of the Park District will realize, on average, an estimated 7.5% reduction on their 2016 tax bill (payable in 2017) and an approximate savings of 27.5% on their 2017 tax bills (payable in 2018).
