Glen Ellyn Park District Strategic Planning Outcome Results in Lower Taxes

July 22, 2016 — On Tuesday, July 19th, the Glen Ellyn Park District Board voted to allow the referendum debt that funded the majority of the expenses to construct the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center to retire. As a result of the unanimous vote, residents of the Park District will realize, on average, an estimated 7.5% reduction on their 2016 tax bill (payable in 2017) and an approximate savings of 27.5% on their 2017 tax bills (payable in 2018). Freedom Four 4-Mile Run Returns on July 4, 2016

The Glen Ellyn Park District’s annual Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run will take place on Monday, July 4th, 2016, at 8am. A popular summertime event, the race attracts more than 800 runners, walkers, and strollers each year, helping raise money for the Glen Ellyn Park District Scholarship Fund. Glen Ellyn Jazz in the Park Concerts Start This Week: 06/13/16

Annual “Gone Fishin’ Derby” Takes Place June 18 at New Location

Whether you are an expert angler or you just love to fish, join the Glen Ellyn Park District for it’s annual Gone Fishin’ Derby on Saturday, June 18th! New this year, the event will take place at Lake Foxcroft Park from 8-10am. Glen Ellyn Park District’s “Movies in the Parks” Series Begins June 8

“Movies in the Parks” is one of the Glen Ellyn Park District’s most popular summertime events! Come out and enjoy free movies under the stars. “Movies in the Parks” runs from June-August, with a mixture of G and PG-rated movies that are perfect for the whole family. New this year, the Park District has partnered with the College of DuPage to bring a sing-along movie to the community in July. All movies will start at dusk (about 8:15pm), weather permitting. Park District Approves HGA Lease Agreement

April 6, 2016 — The Glen Ellyn Park District has entered into an agreement with Hard Gainers Athletics (HGA) to license space, currently occupied by the Chicago Bulls/Sox Academy, at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center. The new license agreement allows the Park District to retain both organizations as the space will serve as an area for HGA to provide expanded and enhanced sports performance training while still enabling the Bulls/Sox to train the Park District’s baseball and softball participants during the off-season. Glen Ellyn Park District Announces Earth Day Celebration 2016

The Glen Ellyn Park District will host its 2016 Earth Day Celebration at Maryknoll Park on Friday, April 22 from 6-8pm. The festival – which is free to attend – is themed “Sustainable Landscaping,” providing information on ways to incorporate sustainable practices at home, in our yards, and sharing ways to become involved in various community efforts related to the stewardship of our natural resources. Glen Ellyn Park District Settles Lawsuit

March 22, 2016 — A settlement agreement has been reached by all parties involved in the dispute over the Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center roof. Under the terms of the Settlement Agreement approved by the Board of Commissioners at its March 22, 2016 meeting, the Glen Ellyn Park District will receive an aggregate total benefit of $450,000 comprised of payments from various parties totaling $250,000, together with the release and dismissal of claims for payment asserted against the Park District by various contractors totaling $190,000 (plus a waiver of $10,000 in attorney fees incurred in the court-ordered mediation process leading to the settlement). January 27, 2016 — Glen Ellyn Park District Board Commissioner Gary Mayo has announced his intention to move outside the Glen Ellyn Park District boundaries within the next few months. Park District’s Goes Tobacco Free at All Parks & Facilities

December 16, 2016 — The Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to pass an ordinance making all its property and parks smoke free, tobacco free, and e-cigarette free effective in spring, 2016. Every year, the Glen Ellyn Park District is pleased to host a free, family-friendly run on Thanksgiving morning. We are thrilled to continue the tradition in 2015 and look forward to seeing the hundreds of familiar faces that come every year. All ages are invited to come and participate in this five-mile run, jog, and walk event. Strollers are welcome! The run will take place on Thursday, November 26th.

Free Week Returns to Ackerman SFC

Glen Ellyn Park District’s Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center will host its third annual Free Week from November 9-13. Non-members are invited to give the new equipment in the fitness center a try, climb the Ackerman Alps climbing wall, enjoy open gym and turf hours, and sample select group fitness classes!

Want to strengthen and balance your body and mind? Come and learn the basics of Yoga! These classes focus on breathing techniques and beginning Yoga postures to teach you a safe, effective and graceful style. A brief stress relief relaxation is offered at the end of class. Beginners to intermediate levels are welcome on November 10 at 10:15am, November 11 at 5:15am (Power Yoga), and November 12 at 10:15am.
