March 22, 2018 Although it was invented in 1965, Pickleball is now becoming one of the fastest-growing sports in America, and is also expanding into Canada and Europe. Pickleball is an interesting sport that combines various elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s said that the game was named by the inventor’s wife, who compared it to a “pickle boat” in the sport of rowing, referring to a boat filled with leftover rowers from other boats. March 9, 2018 It was an exciting season for the Platform Tennis teams in Glen Ellyn! The Glen Ellyn Men’s Travel Club had all 14 teams make it to the playoffs and four teams advance to the final matches. The women’s teams also had outstanding results, ending their seasons ranked toward the top of the leagues. The in-house leagues experienced a record number of players with over 90 men and women playing this past winter. For those unfamiliar with one of the fastest growing team sports in the country, Lacrosse is a clever combination of soccer, hockey, and basketball. It’s played with a stick (the crosse), which is used to catch, scoop, and throw a small rubber ball into the goal (net) of the opposing team.
