Pickleball Clinics, Open Play Start in April!

Although it was invented in 1965, Pickleball is now becoming one of the fastest-growing sports in America, and is also expanding into Canada and Europe. Pickleball is an interesting sport that combines various elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s said that the game was named by the inventor’s wife, who compared it to a “pickle boat” in the sport of rowing, referring to a boat filled with leftover rowers from other boats. The mishmash of oarsmen reminded her of the combination of sports in what later became known as “Pickleball”. Read More »

“Sledding at Newton” takes top honors in the 2018 Winter Photo Contest

Three’s a party, you could say. Just add snow, slopes, smiles, and one small sled to contain it all. The pinkish-grey sky in this shot says that an afternoon of sledding will soon be coming to an end. The sledders’ rosy cheeks say it was all the worth it to get out and take on the famed sled hill at Newton Park. Congratulations to Our Platform Tennis Teams!

It was an exciting season for the Platform Tennis teams in Glen Ellyn! The Glen Ellyn Men’s Travel Club had all 14 teams make it to the playoffs and four teams advance to the final matches. The women’s teams also had outstanding results, ending their seasons ranked toward the top of the leagues. The in-house leagues experienced a record number of players with over 90 men and women playing this past winter.
