UPDATE (10/3): Main Parking Lot Entrance Closure at Ackerman

As the Ackerman Parking Lot Improvement Project nears completion, the main entrance off St. Charles Road and Riford Road into the park will be closed to all traffic from Wednesday, October 3rd through the morning of Saturday, October 6th. The road, while possibly not finished, will be reopened on Saturday, October 6th and remain open through the weekend. It may be closed again for a few days the week of October 7th; specific dates will be announced once determined. Also, during those same dates of closure, the main parking lot serving Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center (ASFC) and the drop-off lane / front parking area will not be accessible. This closure will enable asphalt work to occur within the main drive and the road going east towards the center of the park. Read More »

Notice of Board Meeting Cancellation

Notice is hereby given that the Glen Ellyn Park District Board of Commissioners has canceled their Regular Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 18, 2018. The next meeting of Board Commissioners will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the Spring Avenue Recreation Center, 185 Spring Avenue, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and will begin at its regularly scheduled time of 7:00p.m.

When visiting Ackerman Park, particularly Saturday mornings during fall soccer season, please allow enough time to safely park and walk to the fields and building. Parkview Church is allowing parking for Park District participants and is a convenient alternative. Park District Offers Native Trees, Shrubs For Sale

Autumn is the best time to plant trees and shrubs, according to Renae Frigo, Naturalist and environmental expert with the Glen Ellyn Park District. “Late September and through October is generally a wetter time of the year,” she explained. “Cooler temperatures and the water helps trees and shrubs to establish a healthy root system before going dormant for the winter, and it’s early enough to avoid any chance of frost.” Read More »
